Chicago?

>> September 4, 2009

Well, I know we are in Spain and all but we wanted to make a post about our time in Chicago before it is too late. We were there for only two days but we feel like we packed in a good amount.
The night we flew in we grabbed a quick bit to eat and went to bed at the hotel.
The next day was full of meetings with different people from the Trinity Christian College campus including the campus chaplain, human resources, and a counselor to talk about suicide prevention and the like. Everyone at the school was great and very encouraging. Sarah even got an official Trinity staff ID card.
My good friend Derek came and picked us up at the school after our last meeting for a night in Chicago. Sarah and I wanted to make sure to spend time with Derek and his new wife Jill because we were not able to make it to their wedding when we were returning from Africa. Here is some pictures of our adventures.
Derek had to do some bike maintenance before our bike ride into The Loop. About a 20 minute bike ride from their apartment.
But first we stopped somewhere to eat. It was our late wedding present to Derek and Jill.
I carefully chose my three beers.

The city
A great outdoor amphitheatre designed by a crazy architect. The web over the grass holds up speakers.

I think this is called the Cloud Gate, but everyone calls it the bean.
Reflection. But not a very good one.
I think this is what it was built for....to reflect the skyline.
An outdoor exhibit for one of the main city planners of Chicago.
Skyline from the lake.
The harbor.
Derek and Jill's sweet apartment. Thanks to them, Sarah and I feel like we got a pretty good picture of Chicago. I didn't get any pictures of it, but their were thousands of people at the park watching the movie Tootsie. It was the last movie of a series of showings in the park. It was very surreal to hear the early 80's soundtrack blaring throughout the city while we were moving about.

The next day Sarah had meetings with the Student Life Director and then the Provost. Then we were on our way to the airport.

Thanks Jordan and Sarah for sharing your photos of Chicago too. Glad you could visit with Derek and Jill and enjoy their city. "Meanwhile back at the ranch", I saw your Mom and Grandma yesterday in visalia and it was fun to chat with them. Keep up the good work there in Spain and keep us posted. Love, Jeanne.
