Run!

>> October 6, 2009

On the 25th of September, Sarah and I and a group from the school ran/walked/limped in the XXI Carrera Nocturna Del Guadalquivir 2009. There were over 15,000 people signed up for the 10K that made its way through the streets of the city and along the river.

Here is the starting line. Lots of cameras and loud music. Lots of people there to just watch.

We could not even make it onto the street to start the race so we waited to jump in pressed up against the wall. It was super intense. I climed up on the wall to try to get a good feel of the crowd.

It was unreal when the race began. Things got a little crazy. People were everywhere along the road giving their support and yelling at you if you were not running fast enough. Traffic was literally stopped for hours at some intersections. Some runners stopped at the bars along the way to grab a quick drink.

I can't remember our finish time but it was nothing to write home about. The last leg of the race was running a lap around the Olympic Stadium, which was pretty exhilarating. The stands were filled with a few hundred people cheering the people to the finish.
My number got ripped off the front of my shirt when I was in line to get some free beer after the race. "¿¡Cerveza después de correr!?" you may say? In Spain....yes, especially when its Cruzcampo.
The Acento group.
We all got bags of goodies at the end with free shirts and fun stuff.
Sarah and I pretty much stayed in bed all the next day. We figure we should do some training before the next one.

Great pics and what an event to be in! You are really living it up in Spain! You were in the in-crowd for this race! Love the pics!

Woo hoo!
Go you 2.
I love the pictures and video.
You're going to come back to America as athletic, nap taking fiends.
